I Turned My Garage In To A State-Of-The-Art Personal Training Studio...AGAIN!

Three years ago, I wrote an article documenting the transformation of my training studio from a simple garage setup into a fully functioning gym.

To my surprise, that article has remained one of the five most-read pieces on my website ever since.

Fast forward to May 2026, and I made what some might call a slightly rash decision: I completely overhauled half of the gym.

Why?

Two reasons.

First, after spending several years training clients in the space, I have a much clearer understanding of how I coach, how people move through sessions, and what I need to be as effective and efficient as possible. Experience has a funny way of exposing both the strengths and limitations of your setup.

Second, gym technology has come a long way. The equipment available in 2026 is incredible. My existing equipment wasn't outdated by any means, but I was able to consolidate multiple machines into a single unit while creating significantly more open training space. That's a win-win in my book.

So why am I sharing this?

The first reason is simple: everything evolves. It's a reminder that what got you here won't necessarily get you there. As my personal training business continues to grow, the space needed to evolve alongside it. Growth often requires reinvestment, refinement, and a willingness to make changes—even when things are already working pretty well.

The second reason is that I believe gyms and studios have a responsibility to reinvest in the training experience. At a previous facility where I worked, I spent years advocating for new equipment and upgrades that would improve the services our coaching staff could provide. More often than not, the answer was "no."

Now that I'm the one making those decisions, investing back into the training experience is a no-brainer. Better equipment, better functionality, and a better environment benefit everyone—my clients and myself included.

And finally, I want people to know that you don't need a massive commercial facility to create an awesome place to train. Whether it's a converted garage, a basement, a spare bedroom, or a corner of your living room, you can build something incredibly effective with the right plan and a little creativity.

You don't need much.

In fact, I even put together a free checklist that walks you through exactly what to consider when creating your own training space.
