Fit Tip Friday- My Favorite Exercise (at the moment)

I have a love/hate relationship with squatting.

If we are being perfectly honest, those who enjoy squatting are kinda psycho.

This is the trust-tree, right?

In order to make squatting a tad-bit more enjoyable, I have been absolutely crushing the front-foot elevated split squat.

Why I love it?

First, I prefer to use dumbbells in my training…I typically sneak in workouts while the kiddos are around and if I’m clanging and banging with a barbell then my 4 year old sidekick is going to jump right in and want a set.

Parents…AMIRIGHT.

Second, it takes the basic split squat and shifts everything 'forward' in to the knee and quad. I've found that so many people are told to 'train their hamstrings', to 'really target their posterior chain', or 'keep the hamstring quad ratio in check' (maybe you've never heard that one, but that's a big topic in Personal-Trainer-Land).

I've found that this front-foot loaded variation really helps target the quad and can assist in patellar tendon health as well -something that does plague a lot of my clients. Drat that 'front knee pain!
